Aunt Betti

Many of you know that my (Tracy's) aunt had been ill this year. We received the sad news last week that she passed away. She was an incredible chef, we remember when she would come to visit and spend hours in the kitchen in a whirlwind of flour and spices and vegetable peels. Our family got a big kick out of seeing so much falling on the floor that she had dough in the treads of her running shoes. But that's the vigor with which she did most everything. Whether it was spending hours upon hours painstakingly repairing a priceless antique oriental rug, or racing, yes RACING, her Mini Cooper with the 20-something guys from her Mini club, she lived "pedal to the metal" as they say. We'll miss the "Betti's Bark" toffee candy she made that arrived each Christmas. And we'll miss her.

Here is the obituary that ran last week in the Bangor paper.
DIANE BRIGGS, ORRINGTON - Diane Briggs, 61, passed away Oct. 4, 2008, at her home. Di taught for 30 years in SAD 22 and was known by her students and fellow teachers as a tireless and innovative teacher. Her students will remember her as Mrs. Burke in Newburgh and as Miss Briggs in Hampden. She had many hobbies and interests that set her apart, be it her vast knowledge of oriental rugs, jazz or her love of cars and racing. She strove for excellence in everything she did. Her endless generosity and her irresistible energy will be missed by all that were lucky enough to know her.

Hi tracy,

I didn't know she was sick. I am sorry. It's funny because I often think of her when I see a mini Cooper because I think she was one of the first people I knew of who had one.
