WHOOPIE!

::Beth about to dig in!
(from WHOOPIE PIE HISTORY)
"Whoopie pies are considered a New England phenomenon...They're one of Maine's best known and most loved comfort foods. Mainers will even claim that they were weaned on whoopie pies. In Maine, these treats are more like a cake than a pie or a cookie, as they are very generously sized (about hamburger size).
A whoopie pie is like a sandwich, but made with two soft cookies with a fluffy white filling. Traditional whoopies pies are made with vegetable shortening, not butter. The original and most commonly made whoopie pie is chocolate."
My sister Tamara used to make these, you can, too. Yes, she used Crisco. Sadly, it has been reformulated and may never be the same.

Oh, yes, I do remember that Whoopie Pie. I got it at Moody's diner. We were at the Sea Pearl. I ate it in quarters but it didn't last long. I don't even think I shared any! I am going to have to get one today. My mom is happily educating her new friends and family in MN about the joys of whoopie pies. I never knew before that it was only us New Englanders who made these treats. How lucky we are they are now sold in almost every corner variety store. Mmmmm,mmm.
not sure i have ever had one. now that i have had the utz chips, guess that leaves whoopie pies for next time we come out! -e
Part of the joy of the summer in Maine was a Whoppie Pie treat that we would buy at the head of road. YM
Wuttza utz chip?
Ah, yes, Today I was in the drug store in carb crisis looking for Bugles and saw the UTZ chips isle. Now I must try them.
